In retrospect

The company was founded under the name Jamba in 2000 by three brothers, Marc, Oliver and Alexander Samwer. The company later became known under the brand Jamster in the U.S. and other countries. Since then, the company has developed into one of the world's leading provider of mobile content and digital entertainment services. When the company was founded, it employed a small staff of 30 in a loft on the banks of the Spree in Berlin and led all international business from there. The company now employs more than 700 people at its headquarters in the Berlin DomAquareé, directly on Alexanderplatz, as well as about 50 employees in the U.S. headquarters located in Beverly Hills, California.

On May 25, 2004, the company was acquired by California-based VeriSign Inc., the world's leading company for intelligent infrastructure and security services in the areas of telecommunications and the Internet. The period under VeriSign ownership saw further development and growth of the company's international presence.

At the end of 2005, the company developed a child safety filter with parental controls allowing users to handle digital services and products with greater responsibility. Other important milestones followed including the launch of the music download portal Jamba Music (www.jamba.de/music), and the acclaimed brand image campaign, "Have it or Hate it," aimed at repositioning the brands.

In September 2006 News Corporation announced a joint venture with VeriSign in which News Corporation's Fox Mobile Entertainment would be merged with the company, one of the world's largest provider in the sector of mobile entertainment. On January 31, 2007 the deal was finalized and it marked a major milestone in the successful history of the company. The joint venture combines the world's largest media corporation with the internationally renowned mobile entertainment provider, allowing the company to offer its customers around the world even more exclusive content.

In October 2008, News Corporation assumed full ownership of the company with its purchase of the 49 percent stake previously held by VeriSign. The company seized this opportunity to further leverage the dynamic strengths of the Fox brand and assets and reorganized its business into three distinct operating units focused on mobile content distribution, content licensing and mobile content production under the Fox Mobile Group umbrella. This move and the renaming into Fox Mobile Distribution aligned the company's business strengths to the global market opportunities in mobile entertainment, enabling it to more swiftly realize its goal to become the global leader in mobile entertainment.
